If I already receive SNAP benefits, can I also sign up for WIC?: Yes. In fact, if you qualify for SNAP, you also qualify for WIC and are already income-eligible. You are allowed to receive benefits from both programs at the same time.

1. Who in my family is eligible for WIC?: Pregnant and post-partum (up to six months) women, women who are breastfeeding (up to one year), infants, and children up until their fifth birthday.

2. Can fathers, grandparents, guardians, or foster parents apply for benefits for the children living in their households?: Yes. Although WIC doesn't provide food packages for these individuals, they are still encouraged to apply for WIC benefits that help feed the children in their families.

3. Do I need to be enrolled in Medicaid to participate in WIC?: No. Mothers and dependent children do not need to be enrolled in Medicaid and are still eligible for WIC even if they are employed and/or they are covered by private insurance.

4. If I already receive SNAP benefits, can I also sign up for WIC?: Yes. In fact, if you qualify for SNAP, you also qualify for WIC and are already income-eligible. You are allowed to receive benefits from both programs at the same time.

5. Are there other assistance programs that I might be eligible for?: Yes. If you are eligible for WIC, there is a good chance you could be eligible for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Free and Reduced School Lunch Program, or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families).

6. Do I need to be a US citizen to enroll?: No. You do not need to be a US citizen or have a social security number to enroll in WIC. Participating in WIC will not effect your citizenship eligibility.

7. Can WIC help with special dietary needs?: Yes. Participants are given food packages that take into consideration a person's life stage, breastfeeding status, and special dietary needs. This also includes hypoallergenic formula for infants.

8. How long do I have to wait for benefits after signing up?: Benefits are added to your WIC card during your appointment, so you are able to start shopping for food right away!

9. Are families ever denied WIC because too many people sign up?: No. As more families enroll in WIC, the amount of funding for the program also increases.
