The Clay County Public Health Center renewed its contract to continue providing Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services for federal fiscal year 2017 with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Under the terms of the contract, the Health Center will be able to serve 2,050 eligible individuals every month or 24,600 individuals annually.

WIC serves pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children up to their fifth birthday. The goal of the WIC program is to improve the health and nutrition of eligible participants. The program is available to low and middle-income families who meet federal financial guidelines. WIC promotes health and nutrition by issuing WIC vouchers for foods such as milk, cheese, eggs, fruit, juice, cereal, dried beans or peanut butter. Participants redeem vouchers at authorized local retail stores.

The Clay County WIC office is located at 800 Haines Drive, Liberty, Mo. WIC services are provided Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Two extension clinics are also held each month:

1. Bethel United Church of Christ, 4900 NE Parvin Road, Kansas City, Mo. (third Tuesday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m.)
2. Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, 1500 Rosalea St. (second Tuesday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m.)

WIC services are offered by appointment only. For appointments and more information on guidelines and services, call WIC at 816-595-4358. The Clay County Public Health Center is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Services provided on a non-discriminatory basis
