Women, Infants, Children Program

WHAT IS THE WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN (WIC) PROGRAM?

WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that helps mothers and young children eat well and stay healthy. WIC’s goal is to improve health by informing families about good health practices and by providing nutritious foods to eligible clients.

Who is WIC for?

WIC services are for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or whose pregnancy recently ended and for infants and children up to their 5th birthday.

How do I qualify for WIC?

Clients must meet the WIC income guidelines and have a nutritional risk.

What foods do clients receive from WIC?

WIC food packages are based on the type of client (woman, infant, or child). The food packages approved for use in the Missouri WIC program are designed to help meet infants' developmental needs and current pediatric feeding recommendations and to complement the eating patterns of preschool children. WIC foods also supplement the special requirements of pregnant and breastfeeding women and help to replace nutrients that are lost during pregnancy.
