How to get tested

Most primary care or private providers or HMOs will provide testing and care. Cost will vary.

The health department’s in-house clinic provides confidential testing and treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and confidential HIV testing at no cost to the client. Testing is provided on Tuesdays and Fridays by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please call 816-595-4256.

To leave a confidential voice mail, please call 816-595-4261

What to expect when tested

1.    After registration, you will be called and taken to an exam room.
2.    A risk assessment is completed by asking personal questions.
3.    Safe sex practices and risk reduction will be discussed.
4.    A vial of blood is drawn for the HIV and syphilis tests and urine is collected for the gonorrhea
       and chlamydia tests.
5.    Please do not urinate for one hour prior to testing.
6.    Do not use an over-the-counter vaginal product one week before testing, including yeast
       medication and douching.
7.    You should be off antibiotics for approximately three weeks before coming in to be tested.
